What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of airbrushed makeup? If you are like me, my mind immediately thinks wedding, or special occasion. There was a time when airbrushed makeup was only used for special times and applied by makeup artists. With the Luminess Air system you can have that lasts all day flawless look everyday; airbrush makeup applied in the comfort of your own home, no makeup artist required.
I recently gave the Luminess Air Legend Airbrush System a try. This complete airbrush makeup kit comes with everything you need to apply airbrush makeup yourself. The system is a compact size that won’t take up much space at your makeup station.
In your kit your will receive the Luminess Air airbrush compressor and stylus, 1 bottle of the moisturizer/primer, 2 bottles of foundation, 1 blush, and the brightening glow. The kit also comes with an instructional DVD. The system is easy to use, but I do recommend you watch the video to pick up some helpful tips, there is a learning curve.
Benefits of the Luminess Air Airbrush makeup;
- Oil free
- Paraben free
- Fragrance free
- Premium pigment
- Water based
Finding foundations that match my skin tone is often challenging. I’m somewhat of a yellow undertone but have dark hyper-pigmentation. If you are unsure of what color to order with your system, Luminess Air does have a matching service on their website. Try to send a clear bare face picture in good light. If possible wear a basic white shirt. Luminess Air offers several different finish types Silk, Ultra, Satin, and Matte. I have combination oily skin and with my hyper-pigmentation I wanted fuller coverage so I went with the matte.
The two colors I tested were Shade 07 Cinnamon and 08 Chestnut. Unfortunately neither shade was a match for me. Shade 7 had a red tone that was too dark for me. Upon first application shade 8 which appeared to have a golden tone seemed okay but it too dried to a red tone that was too rich.
In this picture I’m wearing shade 07, I purposefully didn’t cover my neck so you can see the difference and how red the color dried. The finish is very smooth and nice just a bummer the shade was all wrong.
Nonetheless I found the system easy to use with a bit of practice. The trigger on the stylus is sensitive, use a light touch. I found it helpful to practice a bit on a piece of paper to get the hang of wrist movement and the amount of pressure needed. If you pull back too far on the stylus, hold it too close to the face or don’t keep the stylus moving the application will be splotchy and uneven. You want to keep your wrist relaxed and use fluid motion.
Once you get the hang of the movement, applying the makeup is quick and easy. You can build up the coverage if needed. If I look past the mismatched color I was really pleased with the look of this foundation as far as texture and feel. Once applied the makeup felt weightless on my skin and there was no transfer. If I can find the proper shade match, this is a system I would use again.
Have you ever had airbrush makeup done?
