Healthy Hair Challenge with Hair La Vie

My hair has always been somewhat of a security blanket for me and I cared for it diligently. With so much on my plate this year, diligently haircare has fallen by the wayside. I have been brutal on my hair with a lot of heat styling and rushed detangling. A few weeks ago after seeing a wad of hair in the shower I knew it was time to make a change.

To kick of reclaiming my hair’s healthy I decide to go back to basics and challenge my myself to do better.  I’m aiming for at least 3’ on growth in the next three months. Here is what I plan to do.

Hair La Vie

Regular Trims;
I‘m guilty of holding on to length. You know when you have length that is thin with split ends and it’s time to trim it off and let it go. I probably have a good three inches that need to go, I was holding on for dear life but it’s time.  My hair is naturally curly/wavy so I will straighten it one last time before the challenge. I prefer to trim my hair when its straight. I will also measure the length after the trim to track progress.

Pretreat;
In the past my hair has responded well to treatments on dry hair. I will alternate hot oil treatments or using coconut oil to treat my hair before shampooing. Doing the oil treatments before shampooing also allows the oil to wash out easier and I’m not shampooing twice. I’m aiming for weekly pre-treatments.  

Take a supplement;
I have taken hair supplements in the past and when I remained consistent with them I’ve had great results. Deep Condition;
With all the heat styling I have been doing I really dropped the ball in this department, and it’s showing. My hair has been dry and dull lately. I will deep condition at least weekly.  I just purchased another jar of the Theorie Helichrysum nourishing hair mask which has worked well for me in the past.  

No Heat Styling;
This is a big one right here but it’s necessary. I attribute the current state of my hair to over styling with heat. I have been flat ironing more than once a week lately and have been lax with conditioning and heat protection, no good. I’m breaking up with heat tools for now.

Protect  Hair;
Cotton can be damaging to your hair. Cotton is drying and the friction caused by your hair rubbing on the cotton can also cause frizz and breakage.I’m pretty good at tying my hair up at night but sometimes I fall asleep and forget. I will be sure to at least have a silk or satin pillowcase on bed at all times or tie my hair up and cover with a scarf.

Drink Water 
Water helps the body process and flush out toxins. I mentioned my hair has been dry lately and I have not been drinking nearly as much water as I should.  This week I have been good, getting in my 8 glasses a day, I’m hoping to keep that up.
