5 tips to protect your skin

Beauties, Spring is finally here and I couldn’t be more excited. Spring is my favorite season. The Spring weather is just perfect, warm but not uncomfortably  hot. It’s Spring break week here where I live and that means plenty of people are packing up and heading down to the beach. With the warmer weather upon us more of our skin is exposed and what better time to remind ourselves of the importance of skin protection. Whether I am heading down to the beach or the park, here is a look at some of the items I like to keep on hand to protect my skin.

If you have been following me for a while you know that I am slightly obsessed with slowing down the hands of time. Around age twenty-five I started really taking anti-aging serious. Of course aging and gasp wrinkles may be part of life, but I’m trying to keep them at bay for as long as possible.

 Anti-Aging skin care tips

Seek Shade: The sun rays are the strongest from 10 am – 2 pm. If you have to be out during that time you want to try and be in the shade as much as possible, or at least cover your skin a bit.  Our skin is our body’ largest organ. Skin damage such as wrinkles, dark spots and dull skin are often caused by sun exposure. Sun exposure can be reduced by protective clothing, sun protection and anti-aging care.  I like to keep a hat on hand for times when I am out in the sun. A wide brim hat helps to protect my face and neck.  Squinting also contributes to wrinkles so sunglasses are a must. I also try to wear light colors that won’t draw and absorb the suns rays and loose fabrics to keep cool and comfortable .

Moisturize & Protect: My legs and arms can’t wait to feel the warmth of the sun so I definitely make sure to use skin treatments that provide SPF protection to keep my skin looking beautiful.

Now that your skin is protected, don’t forget your lips.  I am the lip balm collector and I try to make sure I have one with spf on hand when I am going to be out in the sun.  The suns rays can be drying on delicate lip tissue and although the lips are an area people may not think about they can get sun burned as well.

Manage Stress:  This is easier said than done sometimes, but we have to make an effort. There is something about the Spring that automatically brings my stress level down, the birds are chirping the weather is nice and I can spend more time outside.  Relax, take a walk around the park, sit on the beach, read a book, listen to music; laugh more and worry less.  Stress can manifest itself in many ways and why add to the aging process with something we can control.

Eat Healthy: As I get older I pay a lot more attention to what I eat. Burgers and fries are now I rare treat and fish and salads make more of a regular appearance.  I have traded greasy food for healthy fats and my skin is grateful. Yes, you are what you eat and your skin will show signs when you aren’t maintaining a healthy diet. Avocados are one of my favorite things to snack on but they don’t make for a good travel food. Try throwing some nuts, granola bars and fruit into your bag for a good for you snack on the go.

Hydrate: How much water have you drank today? Admittedly I need to work on my water intake.  Dehydration can make your skin appear dry and wrinkled so keep a bottle of water on hand and drink up.
