I know we are past the holidays but as I sit here writing this post this lyric is playing in my head…..”Oh, the weather outside is frightful” because seriously it is. Brrrrrrrrr I thought I moved south to get away from the frigid New York temperatures but they seemed to have found me. It is freezing here tonight and temps are expected to be brutal tomorrow as well. This post is right on time, because today I am talking about winter  beauty products.

My skin, hair, and nails are definitely affected by the changing weather. Making adjustments in my routine and products used is oh so very necessary.  Dry skin and hair, chapped lips, rough elbows, baby nobody has time for that. I’m staying on top of my beauty routine and these products make it easy to survive the season.

Skin Care
I change my cleansers a lot depending on what I am testing at the moment, or the current condition of my skin and not necessarily the season. These are some products I use morning and night for skin care in the winter.

Morning:
*MDSolarSciences Daily Eye Repair : I have combination oily skin, the areas around my mouth and eyes tends to get dry while my t-zone is oily. I aging gracefully, but I’m also pro-active with preventing wrinkles so an eye cream is a must, must must.  This one is soothing, hydrating, and firming while still feeling light, perfect for a day eye cream.
Mario Badescu facial spray with aloe, herbs and rosewater – This mist is perfect as a toner and to hydrate and refresh the skin. I actually like to mist my face before applying my serum and I also to hydrate my skin after applying my makeup and throughout the day. I keep a bottle on my desk at work and in my purse.
*L’Occitane Divine Extract – Hello luxury this extract is hands down one of the best serums I have ever used, EVER. Divine is the perfect name for this serum because that is exactly how it feels on your skin. It’s alight serum, no heavy or greasy and absorbs well. You only need a tiny amount and I promise within a few days you will see a noticeable difference in your skin. I will buy this over and over again.
Bobbi Brown Face Base – Primer and oil free moisturizer in one this face base will change your life. It has a nice clean, fresh grapefruit scent, one on my face it moisturizes and softens so well and makes an excellent primer for when I am wearing makeup. I squealed out loud one day when I spotted a few jars at my local CCO (Cosmetics Company Outlet) and I was able to restock at $30% off, even at full price ($56) a little goes a long way and the results are well worth the price tag. For the days you skip makeup it leaves the skin with a nice healthy glow.

Evening
Again my cleanser changes but I also double cleanse, removing makeup with a balm or cleansing oil. I have mentioned a few of my favorites in previous posts which you can read here and here
*tatcha polished rice enzyme powder – My skin needs exfoliation but not something abrasive everyday. I absolutely adore rice powders because they get the job done but are super gentle, kiss that dull skin bye bye. Using a rice powder keeps my hormonal breakouts at bay and keeps my dry spots from getting rough. I’m a big fan of the tatcha powders because they come in several varieties based on skin type. If you aren’t using a rice powder in your routine I highly recommend trying one.
*Dr. Song Rosehip Oil – I often alternate between an oil , serum and a moisturizer in the evening. I’m in between moisturizers at the moment, the one I was using finished and I would like to try something now, so for the past few weeks I have only been using the oil. I have some dark spots from a breakout I am trying to fade and this rosehip oil helps lock in moisture and fades spots. I reviewed it more in depth here.
Hourglass N° 28 Lip Treatment Oil –  There are few things that irk me more than dry lips and mine are notoriously dry. I have a ridiculous addiction to lip balm and I’m always searching for the perfect one  that will last more than half an hour. When I first bought this I was on the fence about it but over time it has grown on me. The texture is not like most lip balms since this is an oil. It has a slight tacky feel at first but sinks into the skin. Use sparingly a tiny, tiny dot is all you need, I use this morning and evening.

Body/Hands/Hair

I have alligator skin in the winter for real, the steaming hot showers I take are no help. I know, I know really hot showers are bad blah, blah, blah I’m not going to stop though so replenishing that lost moisture is essential. I am VERY picky about lotion, I need it to absorb into my skin not sit on top and last more than an hour. I have finally found a combination that works well for me; an oil and a body butter.
*Neutrogena body oil – Girl, run to your drugstore and get this, hands down amazing and only about $7.99 SCORE.
tatcha indigo body butter & hand cream– I have talked about both of these several times before, you can read my full review here. Winter dry skin must have for me, helps sooth my dry itchy skin and keeps me moisturized for hours. It is a little on the pricey side for a body moisturizer but you don’t need a lot and well when something works this well, I’ll spare no expense.
c.booth body butter – For times when I am being a little more budget conscious I also like the c.booth body butters. (p.s. these go on sale bogo 1/2 at Ulta fairly often) I have tried three of the scents so far and the honey almond and Italian olive oil I like. I tried the Egyptian Argan Oil but didn’t care for the scent of that one.

My hair always gets dry in the winter and lately it has been really bad. I know all the heat styling and abuse I put it through over the summer is coming back to bite me. I really should be doing weekly deep conditioning or hot oil treatments, but hey sometimes I’m busy or lazy and don’t want to be bothered.
*DermOrganic Intensive Hair Repair Mask – Miracle in a bottle is the best way to describe this product. You will notice a difference after the first use, this is sulfate free so great for curly and colored treated hair. I like to add heat to amp it up, leaves my hair soft, moisturized and shiny.
NYX All Over Balm – I would prefer different packaging but nonetheless these balms are little tins of AMAZING. Pleasing light scents, nourishing oils, and all around goodness. Perfect for anywhere you have a dry spot but I absolutely am loving using these balms on my cuticles. This balm is not thick or greasy, melt with body heat and absorbs well.

Although we’ve come to the end of the post, I have just two more products to mention. When you mention bronzers and illuminators some might think summer, summer, summertime. Cold, winter weather can sometimes leave my face looking a little sallow, so I like to warm things up a little.

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Bronzer – When I purchased this over the summer, I didn’t expect to fall in love with it the way I have. This bronzer subtly warms up the complexion for a nice healthy glow. The color of this bronzer will work on a variety of skin tones. If you want that ” it may be snowing but I just came back from vacation” glow, this is the way to go.

NYX Liquid Illuminator – Let’s just be real a little glow is always necessary. For an affordable illuminator this one by NYX does the job. This liquid illuminator can be applied as highlighter or even mixed in with foundation

Whew, that was a long list. I’ll be honest winter is NOT my favorite season but these little gems definitely help me survive.  Have you used any of these products, or do you have any winter beauty staples? You can shop the post below, and be sure to check out what some other members of The Beauty Council rely on to get through the winter season.

C.Booth Body Butter is the bomb, I love that whole line really. And I agree about Tatcha, those Indigo products are deceptively lightweight, but moisturize like champs 🙂
