The journey of a thousand miles, begins with a single step. I took that step in my “back to me” journey for 2014 which included a goal to shed some lbs. I have officially completed week one of the Nutrisystem My Way diet plan designed for women.
For those of you that may be somewhat familiar with how Nutrisystem works, they now have a new program known as the fast 5. On this program the first week you can really kick start your program and lose 5 lbs in the first week. The food is a bit stricter and more of a regimented program during this time as it revives your metabolism. I actually started the program on Monday but my second delivery of food which contained the fast five pack was not delivered on time (I missed the Fed-Ex delivery twice) so I started the fast 5 portion on Tuesday afternoon.
The Nutrisystem program is very balanced, one of the things I like about it. During the fast 5 week there are two shakes that are designed to boost metabolism and fight off hunger. Let’s talk about the shakes first then the rest of the food.
energi-ZING: This is the morning shake that you drink between breakfast and lunch.
- Blend of Proteins
- Green Tea Extract
- B Vitamins
- Boosts Metabolism & Maximizes Energy
- Source of Calcium & Vitamin D
- Bone Strengthening Benefits
Craving Crusher: This is the afternoon shake that you drink between lunch and dinner.
- The fiber blend keep you full
- Soy Protein for women’s health
- Vitamins C& E + Selenium
- Health Boosting Antioxidants
Both shakes were chocolate favor which was nice because you don’t have desserts during the fast 5 week and the chocolate helped curb my sweet tooth. I didn’t care for the taste of the energi-ZING shake. I felt like the green tea extract was strong and had an after taste that I didn’t really care for. On the other hand I loved the Craving Crusher Shake. I did add a one cup of unsweetened Almond milk to my shakes (you are supposed to make them with water) and at only about 30 calories I don’t think that alteration did any harm. By day two I was excited for the afternoon to drink my treat. Despite the almond milk addition, I just couldn’t really get on board with the energi-ZING shake we did not become friends.
Below is a sampling of a few of the meals I had for the week. Breakfast was usually the same, I did one muffin and either 1/2 a banana or a few strawberries with it. The muffins are really tiny, about 1/3 the size of the giant muffins you might find in the bakery section of your grocery store, so adding a little fruit helped keep my satisfied until the mid morning shake. The muffins were okay as far as taste, nothing to write home about but not bad. I kept lunch very simple and did a small salad every day. Over the week I really took notice of how I was satisfied even though the portions appeared small, they were enough to keep me full. I handled dinner same as lunch adding either a salad or a small portion of vegetables. I enjoyed every single dinner and lunch meal for the week. The standouts were the Kung Pao Noodles and the White Chicken Chili (delicious). The pizza’s were okay, they reminded my of a kids pizza in taste nothing special.
To wrap things up I’ll say week one was a success. I followed the plan for most of the week. Saturday and Sunday I was out of town so I had a few meals off the plan. I did watch what I ate and made good choices. Going into week two I need to up my water intake, I fell short of how much I should have been drinking. I’m happy to report that I weighed in this morning down 6 lbs!! I’m very happy about that. I know had I done the program exactly for the 7 days I probably would have lost a bit more. I’m revved up and ready to go into week two. I also want to mention that I had great support this week, I am in a Nutrisystem support group on facebook that has been an amazing resource. Having people to chat with as I take
this journey is definitely a plus.
