A few weeks ago I posted on Instagram about a new line of hair products from Pantene called Truly Natural for African American women with natural hair. Although this line is marketed to African American women the basis of the line is that it is curly hair friendly so actually any of my curly girls can use this.
So here is the set, which is made up of five products;
- Clarifying Shampoo
- Deep Conditioner
- Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner
- Defining Curls Styling Custard
- Shine Serum with Argan Oil
Clarifying Shampoo: This shampoo is not bad, did what it was supposed to do which is deep cleanse and remove buildup. This left my hair feeling very dry and a bit knotted. I expected that dry feeling since clarifying shampoo can be known to strip a bit as they remove product buildup. I did need to detangle thoroughly prior to washing with this though I learned that the hard way. The first time I used this I didn’t detangle first and was left with some knots. Combing out my curls prior to shampooing the second time I used this gave me a better overall result. I don’t use a lot of product in my hair on a daily basis so I don’t need to clarify often. Overall grade for this A.
Deep Conditioner: On its own I wasn’t thrilled with this conditioner but as a sister product to the clarifying shampoo I was pleased. The two go together. …I don’t use a clarifying shampoo often so I also tried this conditioner with a regular shampoo and it was just okay. When I used this deep conditioner following the clarifying shampoo it instantly relived that dry stripped feeling and have my curls good definition. The slip was great and detangling was easy with a wide tooth comb. When I am leaving my hair curly or wearing a “wash & go” style I usually leave a tiny bit of conditioner in my hair. This one did well with me not washing completely out, did not dry hard or leave buildup.
Overall grade B.
Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner: Now here we go, this cleansing conditioner I LOVE. I washed my hair 3x a week with just this cleansing conditioner and my curls love it, also shrinkage was greatly reduced. No dry feeling at all and my hair continued to feel moisturized the next few days. Overall grade A+.
Defining Curls Styling Custard: My first impression was I really like this styling custard. It has a nice light consistency that I liked, my hair doesn’t like the very thick creamy curling custards. Very easy to work with not sticky at all, and gave great definition. My only complaint was it was lacking hold. Overall grade B+.
Shine Serum with Argan Oil: Two of my favorite things came together for this product, Argan Oil and Serum. I cannot get enough of serums and I really like how my hair reacts to Argan Oil. A little goes a long way with this serum, only a few pumps was needed to cover my entire head. This also works very well to seal in moisture and worked well as a base before I defined the curls with the styling custard. I was also able to use this for touch ups during the week to add some more shine to dry hair. I did flat iron my hair and also used this on it wet before drying a few drops after I flat ironed for shine and to tame flyaway’s. Overall grade A+.
