Half-Full Book Review & Giveaway

Book Review/ Reading/ Taneja's Bride

Today’s post is a bit different but one I am very excited about. You already know beauty is one thing I love but in my spare time I also like to read. Give my a rainy day a cup of Chai Tea and a good book and I can curl up in my blanket by the window and read for hours.

To my surprise I learned that fellow beauty blogger and friend Shipra the face behind the Beauty Blog Taneja’s Bride was also an Author. She graciously provided me with a copy of her book Half-Full which I am showcasing for you today.

Half-Full Book Shipra Taneja

Half-Full is a romantic novel that follows the journey of the main character Sonika an Indian-American girl who is shrouded in a veil of pessimism  Simply put she sees everything as half empty  This lighthearted yet bold novel follows Sonika through her transformation of being pessimistic and always viewing things in the half empty negative to a coming into an awareness of seeing things more optimistically or as half- full.  There were many aspects of the story that I found very relatable and it was an easy enjoyable read.

Now for more on the Author. I asked Shipra some questions so you can get to know her better. I also love the opportunity to get into an Author’s head.

Half-Full Book Review

•Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I was always a bookworm. My parents and brother would be outside playing, and I’d be snuggled up in the recliner with a good book. I was probably in elementary school. I started writing at around the same time and actually have a few “journals” filled up with stories. They are really silly and I probably would never publish them, but they are fun to read. I get a quick look at my brain as a child.

•How long did it take you to write the book?
I believe it took me about 2 years. I started in college and took a long hiatus (similar to the one I am taking right now with book #2) and then my husband’s father read whatever I had and really encouraged me to finish and publish it.

•How much of the book is realistic?
The book is realistic only in terms of the girl’s personality. I did take situations from real life and throw them in there, but like 85% is fictional!

•Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
My message is be yourself, be true to yourself, love yourself before loving others, and really listen to your heart. Also, confidence is a valuable quality to have.

•What books have most influenced your life most?
Pride and Prejudice, In Her Shoes…

•What book are you reading now?
I am trying to finish the Hunger Games series. My next book will be Life of Pi.

•What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Developing my characters and making it an interesting plot.

•Do you have any advice for other writers?
Just write. Edit later. Don’t focus on the publishing part until you are done! That will only slow you down.

•What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I love to work on my blog and hang out with my family. Other than that, I really enjoy trying new cuisines and shopping in my free time.

•Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
There is one thing I’d like to say and that is never give up. If you have a goal or a dream, only you are responsible in making it come true. Never blame others for not reaching your goals/dreams. You will reach when you make the effort! So, dream away and work hard to fulfill it. You will get it.
