Benjabelle Brush Tree Review & Updated Brush Cleaning Routine

Banjabelle/ brush tree/ Makeup/ Product Reviews

Have you ever seen a product and thought to yourself OMG this is genius and then wonder why didn’t I think of that? That was my exact reaction when I first saw a picture of the brush tree from Benjabelle. This is the best creation I have come across in a long time. Yesterday was makeup brush cleaning day so today’s post is a two for one. About this time last year I did a post on my brush cleaning routine, if you missed it you can go back and read it here. I have an updated routine that I will outline below.

I started using Castile Soap about 6 months ago, it is like magic in a bottle and has numerous household uses, I’ll do a separate post about them. The best castile soap is by Dr. Bronner’s and comes in quite a few varieties.  Sometimes I buy the peppermint or the rose but today I am using the Almond because I love the smell. The Dr. Bronner’s castile soap is made with a combination of water, organic coconut ,olive,  hemp, and jojoba oils with natural almond fragrance. This combination somehow magically create a unique effective soap the deep cleans without being harsh or drying. The castile soap created a nice lather without using harsh chemicals  or drying alcohol

So here are my dirty brushes, to clean them I mix a drop of the castile soap in my palm with a little warm water and work the brush back and forth. You can see all the yucky makeup running right out. Once all the makeup is out I rinse the brush until the water runs clear.

As you can see this soap cleans the brushes amazing well, it removes every trace of makeup and my brushes are like new.

With my previous method I used to just lay my brushes flat on a towel to dry. You never want to dry your brushes standing up because water will run into the handle and cause the glue to loosen. Drying them on there side was an alternative but not the best one as water still found its way into the handles and my brushes took a long time to dry usually more than a day.  So you can imagine my excitement when I saw the brush tree, finally someone came up with an easy way to dry makeup brushes by hanging them allowing the water to drip out and air to flow so they dry faster. This design is so simple yet so efficient.

Benjabelle a small business was founded by husband and wife team Ben & Jan. Jan like many of us needed  a better way to dry her makeup brushes. One evening while cleaning her brushes she mentions this to her husband and together they came up with the design for the brush tree.

There are a few keys things I love about the brush tree. First it allows my brushes to hand vertically this drying faster and not damaging them. Second it is only three pieces that come apart and store flat for easy storage. Three it can accommodate the varying sizes of all my brushes. So here is what it looks like after I washed my brushes and put them in the brush tree to dry.

Do yourself a favor, you invested in makeup brushes so take care of them. Wash them regularly and hang them in the brush tree. You can purchase the brush tree at www.benjabelle.com for $34.95, right now they are having a special use code brushlove to save $5.00 on your purchase, and yes they do ship International. The brush tree is available in white, black and pink. Be sure to like Banjabelle on facebook , and  follow them on twitter and youtube.

I would love to know your method of cleaning your purchaes and what you think of the brush tree.
